In-Depth Interviewing
In-depth interviews are conducted over the telephone or face-to-face. The questionnaire is normally much more 'open' than is the case for other surveys, and are closer to the approach used in a focus group.
This method should not be used to infer results for a wider population.
In-depth interviews help to reveal more information about respondents' views on a particular matter. They can be used alone, or in conjunction with a quantitative survey:
-
Before a quantitative survey, in-depth interviews can help to shed light on the key issues, aid questionnaire design, and generate ideas.
-
After a quantitative survey, in-depth interviews can add insight to the findings.
We record and transcribe the discussions, and write either an overall summary or a more detailed report on the findings.
